We've always thought that our unique wines required a
similarly unique location for tasting. Our octagonal
tasting room was designed by Aaron G. Green, father of
owner/winemaker Allan Green. Aaron was a San Francisco
architect and an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright for many
years.
A single tree provided all of the redwood used to build
the tasting room. The 400-year-old tree fell during a
storm in the winter of 1969 and remained on the winery
property for 15 years before being milled to build the
tasting room. The huge tree had a diameter of almost 13
feet.
You will notice a new array of solar panels (bottom right) when you visit our tasting room. Up and running as of July 2006, they are providing more than enough power to fully operate the tasting room.
By the way, the panels installed in 2005 on the winery roof are generating more power than we need as well. The excess from both locations goes into the PG & E grid, helping to prevent the rolling "brownouts" we are all threatened with each summer.
Our tasting room on Highway 128
near Philo is open daily, 10-5.
